Carrie Rodriguez Information
Carrie Rodriguez (July 31, 1978) is an American singer and songwriter born in Austin, Texas. At 5, Rodriguez enrolled in violin classes at her local public elementary school. Bill Dick was her primary violin instructor until she moved away from Austin to attend music college at age 17. She spent 1996 learning from Roland and Almita Vamos on a full scholarship at Oberlin Conservatory.
After seeing Rodriguez perform at the 2001 SXSW Hispanic Heritage Month event with the artist Hayseed, Chip Taylor invited her to join his European tour. Carlos Santana, Los Lobos, Linda Ronstadt, Gloria Estefan, Jose Feliciano, and Carrie Rodriguez topped the inspired but limited list of artists. In 2002, she and Chip Taylor released their debut duet album, Let's Leave This Town, for Trainwreck Records.
Her first solo album, Seven Angels on a Bicycle, was released on August 15, 2006, following four albums of duets with Taylor. On August 5, 2008, she dropped her second studio album, She Ain't Me. The video premiered on LiveDaily Sessions on September 29, 2008, and featured Rodriguez playing "Absence," "El Salvador," and "Can't Cry Enough" live acoustically. Carrie Rodriguez opened for Lucinda Williams on their 2009 tour, and their show in Louisville was captured on the live album Carrie Rodriguez: Live in Louisville 2009.
