Caribou Information
Caribou, originally Daniel Victor Snaith (1978), is a Canadian recording artist, composer, and musician. He has performed with different stage names, including Manitoba, Daphni, and Caribou. His last name got more popularity than the other ones.
Caribou is the popular stage name for Snaith. He recorded his initial recordings with a stage name “Manitoba.” Caribou got threatened with a lawsuit by Richard Blum (Richard “Handsome Dick” Manitoba), formerly The Dictators. This threat compelled Snaith to changed his name from Manitoba to Caribou.
He released “The Milk of Human Kindness” under the label of Domino in 2005. The album hit the Community Radio Top 200 chart and also topped the! Earshot Campus. He usually performs with a plays percussion and the live band. His ex-bandmates were the drummer Peter Mitton, now of a CBC radio’s producer, and bassist Andy Lloyd of Born Ruffians. Currently, his team consists of Snaith himself, Brad Weber, Jorn Schmersal, and Ryan Smith.
During the interviews, when he was asked about music, he said that in music, he would have an idea to put some different sounds together or a melody that meshes with a chord sequence or a sonic mood. On some other questions, he replied that he is not the type of person who takes real things apart and playing around with them.
Some of the studio albums Caribou has released with his different stage names are Start Breaking My Heart (2001), and Up in Flames (2003) as Manitoba; Jiaolong (2012), Joli Mai (2017), and FabricLive.93 (2017) as Daphni, The Milk of Human Kindness (2005), Andorra (2007), Swim (2010), and Our Love (2014) as Caribou.
