Car Seat Headrest is one of the American indie rock bands from Leesburg, Virginia. The band is currently located in Seattle, Washington. The band was formed in 2010 as a solo recording project by Toledo. The current band members include than Ives (guitar, bass, backing vocals), Seth Dalby (bass), Toledo (vocals, guitar, piano, and synthesizers), and Andrew Katz (drums, percussion). The music style of the group is often described as a mixture of lo-fi pop and indie rock.
Toledo used to release music under the alias Nervous Young Men after his graduation. After the creation of Car Seat Headrest, he released the first four albums entitled; 1, 2, 3, and 4. While releasing the albums, Toledo attended the classes at Virginia Commonwealth University and released the Sunburned Shirts EP while he was in his first semester. My Back Is Killing Me Baby was the first album by Car Seat Headrest, released in March 2011.
In September 2015, Car Seat Headrest signed an album deal with Matador Records. Teens of Style was the first compilation album under this label. The two of the other compilation albums by the band are Little Pieces of Paper With "No" Written on Them (2010) and Disjecta Membra (2013). Starving While Living (2012) and How to Leave Town (2014) are the two extended plays by Car Seat Headrest. The band also released many successful singles, including "War Is Coming (If You Want It)," "Beach Life-In-Death," "My Boy (Twin Fantasy)," and a few more.
Car Seat Headrest toured with many big-name artists such as Naked Giants (with fellow Seattle-based band), and a few more.
