Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra Information
New York's Buffalo is home to the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, an American symphony orchestra led by JoAnn Faletta as music director. Its main concert hall, Kleinhans Music Hall, is on the National Register of Historic Places. The organization hosts about 120 events per season, spanning several genres and ages. The orchestra tours Western New York's parks and other outdoor venues every summer.
In 1934, orchestra leaders Cameron Baird, Frederick Slee, and Samuel P. Capen got the ball rolling. This orchestra has a lengthy discography of recordings. The BPO's first commercial recording was of Dmitri Shostakovich's Seventh Symphony, and it received widespread acclaim from critics thanks to Steinberg's direction. To the Naxos label, the BPO has recorded works by American composers like as Frederick Converse and Charles Tomlinson Griffes, as well as works by living composers such as the first commercial recording of John Corigliano's Mr. Tambourine Man, which won two Grammy Awards in 2009.
