Ali Douglas Newman (July 30, 1977) is an American community activist, rapper, and member of Rhymesayers Entertainment. He is known by his stage name Brother Ali. He was born in Madison, Wisconsin. For a few years, Ali moved with his family to Michigan and stayed there, but later on, they settled in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in the year 1992. Ali attended Robbinsdale Cooper High School in New Hope, Minnesota.
Ali was just eight years old when he started rapping. He was influenced by hip hop culture at an early age. On August 13, 2007, The Late Late Show featured Brother Ali, where he performed his single entitled “Uncle Sam Goddamn” from his album; The Undisputed Truth. He also appeared on Late Night with Conan O’Brien on October 19, 2007, where he performed “Take Me Home” from the same album. Later, on December 16, 2009, Ali was featured on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. This time he was featured with a late-night band called “The Roots.”
Ali has also appeared on many hit podcasts such as Maximum Fun podcast “Judge John Hodgman.” He was invited as an “Expert Witness.” He also appeared on “The Combat Jack Show: The Brother Ali Episode” on April 4, 2017. On April 5, 2018, Brother Ali appeared on Heat Rocks podcast of Max Fun. His debut album was “Rites of Passage,” which was released on April 28, 2000. Other albums include Shadows on the Sun (May 2, 2003), The Undisputed Truth (April 10, 2007), Us (September 22, 2009), Mourning in America and Dreaming in Color (September 18, 2012), and several others.
