Brevard Symphony Orchestra Information
The Brevard Symphony Orchestra, founded in 1954, performs in Melbourne, Florida, at the King Center. The orchestra features an average of 65 musicians. The administrative staff of the orchestra is currently headquartered at the Winchester Symphony House in Melbourne.
The Brevard Symphony Orchestra was incorporated as a non-profit organization in 1966. Joseph Kreines took over as a conductor for the orchestra and played his role in the implementation for their first season. During the 1987-88 seasons, Maestro Markou was provided with the responsibility, and he led the first performances of the Brevard Symphony Orchestra, which took place in the new Brevard Performing Arts Center. It is now known as the King Center for the Performing Arts. The orchestra has been designated here as “Orchestra-in-residence.”
In 1995, Christopher Confessore replaced Kypros Markou and was appointed as the new Principal Conductor and Music Director. He continues to lead the Brevard Symphony Orchestra, and now he is also working for Alabama Symphony Orchestra as their Associate Conductor. The Brevard Symphony Orchestra also partners with the Brevard County School Board. They organize a free symphonic concert at the King Center in February for all the 5th-grade public school students.
