Bret McKenzie Information
Musician, comedian, music supervisor, and actor Bret Peter Tarrant McKenzie ONZM was born in New Zealand on June 29, 1976. He and Jemaine Clement are best known as half of the musical comedy duo Flight of the Conchords. In the twenty-first century, the comedic and musical talents of the team inspired a BBC radio series and a critically acclaimed American television series that ran for two seasons on HBO. The team has been performing together since 1998, and their most recent comedy spectacular, Live in London, was released in 2018.
McKenzie is a musician who, during the 2010s, has mostly worked as a songwriter and music supervisor in the film and television industries. The song "Man or Muppet," from The Muppets (2011), for which he acted as music supervisor, earned an Academy Award. He also served in the same capacity for Muppets Most Wanted (2014). McKenzie has been performing music professionally since the early 2000s, first as a member of the reggae fusion band The Black Seeds member and later as a solo artist with the Wellington International Ukulele Orchestra. In August of '22, he published his first full-length album, Songs Without Jokes.
In Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit film trilogies, he played the role of an elf. In the former, he was cast as an extra but became a fan favorite after being given the name Figwit by the series' devoted audience. In The Hobbit, he reprises his role as the minor Fellowship of the Ring character Lindir.
