Bonnie Elizabeth Bishop is a country-rock singer and songwriter known as Bonnie Bishop. She is from Texas and graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a sociology degree in 2001. Bishop released her debut album in 2002, which was self-titled. It was followed by Long Way Home that came out in 2004, Soft to the Touch in 2005, Bonnie Bishop and Friends: Live at Magnolia Avenue in 2006, and Things I Know in 2009.
“Not Cause I Wanted To” was a song written by Bishop and “Big Al” Anderson, NRBQ guitarist. This song was recorded by Bishop’s idol Bonnie Raitt in 2012 and was selected as a New York Times Best Song of the year. The song also won a Grammy in 2013. “Undone” was another song written by Bishop and recorded by Raitt. Bishop wrote “The Best Songs Come From Broken Hearts,” which appeared on Nashville, the popular TV show.
After touring for nearly a decade, Bishop took a long break and went to graduate school at Sewanee – University of the South. She attended the school to learn creative writing. Later, she was contacted by David Cobb, who produced her 2016 album entitled “Ain’t Who I Was.” Two of her recent studio albums are House Sessions Vol. 1 (2019) and The Walk (2019).
