Berlin Information
Berlin is an American new wave band that was formed in 1978 in Los Angeles. The group's current lineup includes Terri Nunn, John Crawford, David Diamond, Dave Schulz, Carlton Bost, and Paloma Estevez. The band received commercial success in the 1980s when it released singles from the 1986 film “Top Gun,” including chart-topping “Take My Breath Away,” “No More Words,” “The Metro,” and “Sex (I’m A…).” The band first started as The Genesis of Berlin in 1976, but later on, they changed the name to Berlin.
Berlin released it's first single named “A Matter of Time” in 1979 on Renegade Records. The single earned them an appearance on television for the first time on “Hollywood Heartbeat,” a short-lived show hosted by professional guitarist Bob Welch. In its initial period, the band went through multiple changes in their lineup and have worked with different record labels such as Enigma, Geffen, Columbia Records, and Time Bomb.
Berlin released another single in 1980 entitled “Tell Me Why," which helped them with the financing of its extended play album entitled “Pleasure Victim.” The EP included the first significant hit of the band, Sex (I’m A…). Geffen Records re-released the “Pleasure Victim” worldwide in 1983 with the group appearing at the US Festival the same year.
Berlin released its second album entitled “Love Life” in 1984 with a single “No More Words” that received popularity. The band’s other notable studio albums include Count Three & Pray (1986), Voyer (2002), 4Play (2005), Animal (2013), and Transcendence (2019).
