The group's current lineup consists of Michael Doucet, David Doucet, Billy Ware, Tommy Alesi, Chad Huval, and Bill Bennett. The band released its first album in 1977, which turned out to be a great success. BeauSoleil became one of the most well-known bands that perform original and traditional music deeply rooted in the Cajuns and Creoles of Louisiana's folk tunes.
During the initial years of BeauSoleil, the band was seen in the "Tribute to Cajun Music," which is CODOFIL's annual event. It took place in Lafayette, Louisiana.
