Abbie N. Garland, a resident of Bangor, Maine, embarked on a journey to establish an orchestra for her city in 1896. A music educator passionate about sharing the joy of live music with her neighbors, she fought for the opportunity to do so. She was instrumental in establishing the Bangor Symphony Orchestra in 1896, and the orchestra's popularity grew from there. Meet the Music Makers, Young People's Concerts, the Maine High School Concerto Competition, and the Bangor Symphony Youth Orchestra are just a few of the off-stage initiatives that continue to reflect the orchestra's dedication to its founder's passion for music education.
The repertoire concerts presented by the Bangor Symphony Orchestra each season focus heavily on the classics but also feature many breathtaking compositions from the repertoire. Symphony No. 8 by Beethoven, Symphony No. 33 by Mozart, Cello Concerto by Schumann, and Piano Concerto No. 3 by Bartok will all be performed.
