Harry Bauer Rodrigues (April 30, 1989) is an American DJ and record producer. He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is professionally known by his stage name, Baauer. On May 22, 2012, his debut song, "Harlem Shake," was made available for free download on SoundCloud through the Mad Decent subsidiary Jeffrees. Before being named Pitchfork's Best New Track, it was featured in Rustie's BBC Radio 1 essential mix. Freestyle by rapper El-P, taped for Pitchfork TV.
George Miller, better known by his character Joji, is an internet comedian and musician. In the following months, he and some pals recorded a video of themselves dancing to the tune. As a result, the song became a YouTube phenomenon, with thousands of people posting their covers to the video platform. Good Morning America and The Simpsons both captured pivotal videos.
Once the rules for inclusion on the Billboard list were altered in 2013, "Harlem Shake" became the first US number one to be created solely through streaming. During the song's intro, YouTube's user interface would wiggle as if it were part of an Easter surprise customization. The "Harlem Shake" has been awarded double silver status in the United States. Baauer, Adele, and Drake held the mark for most weekly streams at the time of his 2016 debut album Aa's release. At the 2013 Billboard Music Awards, "Harlem Shake" took home two awards: Dance Song of the Year and Electronic Dance Music Song of the Year.
