Augie T Information
Augie Tulba or Augie T. (1968) is an American politician. He was born in Honolulu, Hawaii. Honolulu, Hawaii's KPHI, airs Tulba as a radio host under the "Shaka 96.7" moniker. He also had a successful career as a radio host, hosting shows on KDNN and KQMQ-FM. His comic career began in the 1990s, but it was in the 2000s that he became widely known. Rap Reiplinger was an inspiration for him. In addition to acting, Augie T provides his voice for radio and TV commercials throughout town.
He performed his last stand-up comedy event in March of 2019. He declared his candidacy for Honolulu City Council in September 2019. When Augie first tried stand-up in 1991, he won an open mic night at the first Honolulu Comedy Club. Augie learned that swearing is only sometimes necessary to generate a laugh from local comedian Andy Bumatai, who helped him refine his early stuff.
Augie had previously played with the two remaining members of Booga Booga, James Grant Benton, and Ed Ka'ahea, and they also became mentors to him. In 1999, Augie's "Da Comedy Kahuna" was honored with the N Hk Hanohano Award for Best Comedy Album. With "Locally Disturbed," a comedy he wrote and directed in 2003, he earned his second Hk Award. The Honolulu Star-Bulletin and MidWeek named Augie Comedian of the Year in 2002 for being the funniest comic in Hawaii.
