Arnaldo Cohen Information
Arnaldo Cohen (April 22, 1948) is a Brazilian pianist. He also received degrees in Engineering and Violin from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro alongside his piano studies. Coen started his professional career as a violinist and played it at the Rio de Janeiro Opera House Orchestra. Cohen decided to devote more time to playing the piano as his career progressed. He continued his studies alongside Dieter Weber, Bruno Seidhofer, and Jacques Klein. Cohen also won the first prize in the Ferruccio Busoni International Piano Competition in 1972.
As a soloist, Cohen has been invited to perform by different organizations, including Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra de la Suisse Romande, Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, Bellingham Festival Orchestra, Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Cleveland Orchestra, Houston Symphony, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic, and Philadelphia Orchestra.
Cohen has worked with notable conductors such as Edo de Waart, Wolfgang Sawallisch, Yehudi Menuhin, and Kurt Masur. He has also played in venues including Frick Museum, the Concertgebouw, and Wigmore Hall. Cohen has also served as a professor of piano at the Royal Academy of Music in London. He is currently a professor at the Jacobs School of Music in Indiana. He started performing his duties as the Artistic Director of Portland Piano International in October 2012.
