American Bach Soloists Information
The American Bach Soloists (ABS) is a San Francisco Bay Area-based American baroque orchestra. The orchestra's inception can be traced back to 1989 in Belvedere, California. Artists introduce contemporary listeners to the music of Johann Sebastian Bach and other Classical era composers like Handel, Vivaldi, and Mozart. At Christmastime, ABS has been presenting Handel's Messiah at Grace Cathedral since 1998.
ABS issued a greatest hits album of Bach cantatas and other early music in February 2020. The American Bach Soloists Academy is a two-week summer program held annually at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and hosted by ABS since 2010. Over a year, over fifty of the most accomplished early music students get together for instruction and rehearsal.
As part of the ABS Festival, artists take the stage in public immediately following the academy to play baroque pieces. Jeffrey Thomas serves as the artistic and musical director of the American Bach Soloists. Jeffrey is a tenor singer and conductor. He attended Cambridge University, the Juilliard School of Music, the Manhattan School of Music, and the Oberlin Conservatory of Music.
