Amanda Shires Information
Amanda Shires (March 5, 1982) is an American fiddle player and singer-songwriter from Lubbock, Texas. Due to her parents' divorce, Shires' childhood was divided between Mineral Wells and Lubbock. Her father bought a fiddle for Shires when she was only 10. Shire began to learn the fiddle, and it took a while for her to play it well. At 12, Shires began taking fiddle lessons in Lubbock from Lanny Fiel and later from Frankie McCourter. Soon Shires was invited to play in shows. Shires graduated from Sewanee: The University of the South with a Master's of Fine Arts in Poetry in 2017.
Being Brave was the first solo album by Shires that was released in 2005. It was followed by another album entitled West Cross Timbers and then Sew Your Heart with Wires in 2009. Some of her other solo studio albums include Carrying Lightning (2011), Down Fell the Doves (2013), Sea Songs - Single (2015), My Piece of Land (2016), and To the Sunset (2018).
From 2006, Shires toured with Picott. She also recorded and performed with Devotchka, Chris Isaak, Jason Isbell & the 400 Unit, Thrift Store Cowboys, Todd Snider, Justin Townes Earle, and a few others. Shires appeared in the film Country Strong in 2011 and was named Artist of the Year by Texas Music magazine in 2012.
Amanda Shires has won many awards and honors throughout her career, including the Americana Music Honors & Award 2017, Grammy Award 2018, UK Americana Award 2018, Americana Music Honors & Award 2018, and Academy of Country Music Award 2020.
