Alanis Nadine Morissette (June 1, 1974) is a singer and musician from Canada. She was born in Ottawa, Ontario. She has garnered acclaim for her heartfelt mezzo-soprano vocals and introspective lyricism. Morissette released her first two dance-pop albums in the early 1990s, launching her career in Canada. Jagged Little Pill, an album influenced by alternative rock and post-grunge, was published under her name in 1995.
More than 33 million copies of this record were sold worldwide, catapulting her into the stratosphere of pop stardom. In 1996, it won her the Grammy for Best Album, and in 2017, the same name was turned into a rock musical. The musical was nominated for fifteen Tony Awards, winning one. The album also appeared in Rolling Stone's "500 Greatest Albums of All Time" lists in 2003 and 2020.
The new song "Safety-Empath in Paradise" by Morissette was released on May 18, 2022. The latest meditation music album, The Storm Before the Calm, was published on June 17, 2022. Dave Harrington, well known as one half of the electronic music group Darkside, collaborated on writing and producing the album.
A cover version of the Yellowjackets TV series theme song, "No Return," was released by Morissette on April 14, 2023.
In a 2024 interview with Variety magazine, Morissette said she will begin working on a new album. The Triple Moon Tour, featuring 33 performances across the U.S. in the summer of 2024, was also announced by Morissette in November 2023 to celebrate the 25 years since the release of her album Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie.
