Alan Charles Jardine (September 3, 1942) is an American singer, songwriter, and musician. He was born in Lima, Ohio. He was the band's rhythm guitarist and also sang lead vocals on some of their songs, including "Help Me, Rhonda" (1965), "Then I Kissed Her" (1965), "Cotton Fields" (1970), and "Come Go with Me" (1978). In 1978, his song "Lady Lynda" was a top 10 smash in the United Kingdom. In addition to his lead vocals on "I Know There's an Answer" (1966), "Vegetables" (1967), and "From There to Back Again" (1967), Jardine contributed to several more Beach Boys songs (2012).
After his bandmate Carl Wilson died in 1998, Al Jardine stopped touring with the rest of the Beach Boys and began a solo career. A member of Brian Wilson's touring band since 2013, Jardine has been a member of the Beach Boys since 2013. A Postcard from California is the only studio album he has published under his name (2010). In 1988, Jardine and the rest of the Beach Boys were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Sloop John B: A Pirate's Tale (2005), written by Jardine and illustrated by Jimmy Pickering, is the author's only work. The song's lyrics were reworked into a children's book, telling the narrative of a youngster and his grandfather's Caribbean voyage. Jardine's acoustic recording of the song is included on a bonus CD.
