AJJ - The Band Information
AJJ is an American folk-punk based in Phoenix, Arizona. The current lineup of the group includes Sean Bonnette (lead vocals, acoustic guitar), Ben Gallaty (bass guitar, double bass, backing vocals), Preston Bryant (lead guitar, keyboards, backing vocals), Mark Glick (cello), and Owen Evans (drums, percussion). The band was formed as Andrew Jackson Jihad in 2004, while the lyrics are based on politics, existentialism, addiction, religion, humanity, poverty, and shyness.
AJJ recorded its first LP entitled Candy Cigarettes & Cap Guns in 2004, released in 2005 through the Audioconfusion Manifesto label. The band also played as part of the New Times Music Showcase on April 15, 2006. That same year, the group was nominated for Best Americana Band and won the Best of Phoenix award.
AJJ released another LP on Plan-It-X-Records with Ghost Mice in 2007. Their second full-length album entitled, People Who Can Eat People Are the Luckiest People in the World, was released on September 11, 2007, through Asian Man Records. AJJ has worked with several record labels throughout its career, including SideOneDummy Records, Asian Man, No Idea, Art of the Underground, Traffic Street, Suburban Home, Silver Sprocket Bicycle Club, Lauren Records, and Specialist Subject Records.
Some of the other notable studio albums released by the band are Can’t Maintain (2009), Knife Man (2011), Christmas Island (2014), The Bible 2 (2016), and Good Luck Everybody (2020). Some of their notable EPs include Plant Your Roots (2007), Only God Can Judge Me (2008), Operation Stackola (2009), and Back in the Jazz Coffin (2017).
