Adia Victoria (July 26, 1986) is an American singer and songwriter. She was born in Spartanburg, South Carolina. She went to Seventh-day Adventist church schools until the sixth grade, when her mother decided it was time for her to attend public education. Vicky turned to write poems and short stories as an outlet after her parent's marriage broke up. Coming from the Seventh-day Adventist community to a public school was a big change for Victoria, who felt out of place.
Victoria and her family frequently visited her grandparents, who lived around Campobello. In Campobello, she went to school at Landrum Junior High. Victoria's exposure to artists like Kurt Cobain, Miles Davis, and Fiona Apple was widened when her family left the Adventist religion before she started high school. After graduating high school, she moved to New York to "make it big in a new place."
A move to Atlanta from New York was her big life decision in 2007. A buddy had given her a guitar for her 21st birthday, and she had started playing the blues shortly after. In 2010, Victoria uprooted to Music City. She wanted to maintain her anonymity, so she settled in Nashville. She moved to Nashville to take French in college after earning her GED there. She made her performance debut in the Nashville area. In 2016, she played at South by Southwest.
