The venue is under the ownership of the Government of Alberta. The theater was opened for the general public in 1955 to celebrate the 50 years of Alberta. The center underwent renovation in the year 2004, costing a total amount of $91 million and was reopened in 2005. It has a seating capacity of 2,538 people at a time.
