The architectural style of the venue is Italianate which was done by Holabird & Roche; Lawrie, Harry. The original architect of the theatre was done by Fisher & Lawrie. It was named after a local philanthropist, with a large portrait of him, John A. Creighton. The theatre underwent a significant renovation d $10 million in 2002. In October 2013, a digital electronic display board was added to the place. Again in 2017, the theatre underwent a major update of $3 million.
