Mercer County, in Ohio, was founded in 1820, and 1824, the county was organized. Celina is the county seat of Mercer County, and it is named after Hugh Mercer, the American Revolutionary War officer. In the mid to late 1800s, the county turned into a home for many German immigrants. The majority of the immigrants became farmers after entering this new world.

The county also has two rivers that run through it named; the Wabash (part of the Gulf of Mexico's watershed) and St. Marys (Lake Erie's watershed). The longest and the largest creek in the county is Beaver Creek. The county has a 3-member Board of County Commissioners responsible for various County departments. The elected commissioners of Mercer County are Rick Muhlenkamp, Jerry Laffin, and Greg Homan.
Some of the adjacent counties to Mercer County are Adams County, Indiana (northwest); Auglaize County (east); Van Wert County (north); Shelby County (southeast); Jay County, Indiana (southwest); and Darke County (south). The county was also the fictional setting of the famous Prime Video series entitled Tales from the Loop.
