The venue is an example of Old Spanish architecture that has a seating capacity of 1,400. Jefferson Amusement Company built the theatre that Saenger Amusements owns. The venue has been recognized as a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark and featured on the National Register of Historic Places.
The Jefferson Theatre is one of the few theatres in the United States that retains its original Morton organ that the Robert Morton Organ Company produced. The theatre was officially opened to the local public on November 14, 1927, at a construction cost of nearly $1 million. Many high-profile artists have performed at the theater since its renovation was completed. Some notable names are Lyle Lovett, Doobie Brothers, George Carlin, Lou Rawls, The Temptations, and Joan Rivers.
The Jefferson Theatre was originally designed for Jefferson Amusement Company. The venue boasts a 3-manual and 8-rank Robert Morton organ. In 1946, the premiere of “It’s A Wonderful Life” was held at the Jefferson Theatre, where James Stewart starred and Frank Capra directed.
