The Ilani Casino Resort is a casino operated by the Cowlitz Indian Tribe near La Center, Washington. Opening on April 24, 2017, the casino was inaugurated after a lengthy legal battle over the tribe’s right to establish a reservation casino. The tribe was formally recognized on February 14, 2000, by the U.S. federal government.
The Cowlitz Tribe began to plan for a casino and hotel complex on trusted lands near La Center in the 2000s. The National Indian Gaming Commission granted them a gambling license in 2005. The tribe was also granted the right to establish a 152-acre reservation near La Center.
The Ilani Casino Resort is equipped with several facilities. It has 2,500 slot machines, a 2,500-seat performance venue, and 75 table games. The casino was projected to attract 4.5 million visitors every year and bring $200 million to the Cowlitz Tribe. The casino’s interior and architect’s design was done by Friedmutter Group, a Las Vegas firm specializing in gambling projects.
