Yotam Ottolenghi Information
Yotam Assaf Ottolenghi (December 14, 1968) is an Israeli-English chef, food writer, and restaurateur. He is the co-owner of six delis and several restaurants in London and the author of numerous bestselling cookbooks, including SIMPLE, Jerusalem, Plenty, and Ottolenghi. He studied French cooking at Le Cordon Bleu in London, where he also started his culinary career and served at three restaurants as a pastry chef.
Ottolenghi became the head pastry chef at the artisanal pastry shop called Baker and Spice in 1999. He met the Palestinian Chef Sami Tamimi. The pair bonded over the shared language of Hebrew as Tamimi had grown up in the Old City of Jerusalem. The duo founded the eponymous delicatessen Ottolenghi in the Notting Hill district of London in 2002.
Ottolenghi began to write a weekly column for The Guardian entitled “The New Vegetarian” in 2006. Although he is not a vegetarian, his mission is to celebrate vegetables for what they are and not let them be “second best” within a meal. In 2008, he published his debut book “Ottolenghi,” which sold over 100,000 copies thus far. Several of his cookbooks are as follows: Plenty (2010), Plenty More (2014), Jerusalem (2012), and Nopi (2015). His dessert cookbook includes Sweet (2017) and Ottolenghi Simple (2018).
Ottolenghi has received several awards so far in his career, including the Galaxy National Book Awards (2010), Observer Food Monthly’s “Best Cookbooks Ever” (2010), and James Beard Award in 2013 “International CookBook” for Jerusalem.
