Yen-Li Chen Ballet School Information
Yen-Li Chen is the school's founder and primary teacher. In 1889, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky composed the music for the ballet The Sleeping Beauty. Ivan Vsevolozhsky gave him the idea, which comes from Charles Perrault's La Belle au bois dormant, to develop further. Marius Petipa was the ballet's choreographer.
The ballet story revolves around Princess Aurora, cursed by the evil fairy Carabosse on her sixteenth birthday. On January 15, 1890, the ballet debuted at the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburgh with conductor Riccardo Drigo at the helm. The ballet is now considered a standard repertoire piece.
Yen-Li Chen has toured throughout Asia, South America, and the United States and is the creator of the Yen-Li Chen Ballet School. She has been invited to perform at the International Festival of Caracas, Venezuela, and the International Festival of Santiago, Chile. Swan Lake, Romeo and Juliet, The Nutcracker, and Giselle are just some of the ballets in which she has starred as the lead dancer.
