Samir Khullar (February 29, 1976) is a Canadian writer, comedian, actor, and producer. He is professionally known by his stage name, Sugar Sammy. He was born in Montreal, Quebec. He attributes his interest in comedy to see Eddie Murphy's Delirious (1983) at eight. His life's purpose became crystal clear to him at that moment. Comedians Khullar admires include Martin Lawrence, Chris Rock, and Dave Chappelle.
While attending Marianopolis College, Khullar continued to perform at open-mic nights at the Comedy Works and the Comedy Zone, building on his stage expertise from his time at École Secondaire La Voie. He worked as a nightclub promoter at McGill University while pursuing a degree in cultural studies, from whence he adopted his stage name.
Khullar's TV appearances date back to at least 2004. Over seven consecutive years, he was the first comic to ever perform in all three of Toronto's language editions of the Just For Laughs Festival (in English, French, and Hindi). Aside from the Johannesburg Comedy Festival, he has performed at the Sydney and Cape Town festivals.
