Shakespeare in Love Information
Lee Hall has turned the romantic comedy film, Shakespeare in Love into a stage play. On July 22, 2014, the drama debuted in London's West End at the Nol Coward Theatre. It was directed by Declan Donnellan, designed by Nick Ormerod, and scored by Paddy Cunneen, and it was produced by Disney Theatrical Productions and Sonia Friedman Productions. In the first production, David Oakes played Marlowe, Tom Bateman played Will, and Lucy Briggs-Owen played Viola De Lesseps. On April 18, 2015, production came to a halt.
Sold-out crowds saw the performance at the 2016 Stratford (Ontario, Canada) Festival. Declan Donnellan directed the production, and the remainder of the cast and crew from the London production was also brought over to Canada. An American premiere of the play took place at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival on February 18, 2017. Burbage Theater in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, presented the play as their season opener for 2018-2019.
At South Africa's Fugard Theatre in 2017, the drama had its first-ever production (Cape Town, South Africa). Dylan Edy played Shakespeare, and Roxane Hayward played Viola De Lesseps in this film, directed by Greg Karvellas and produced by Eric Abraham.
