Recycled Percussion Information
For a high school talent event in 1995, Justin Spencer formed Recycled Percussion. Spencer was presented with the idea of playing buckets in the New York City subways, and he wanted to be more creative than utilizing regular instruments. After that, Spencer ramped up the show's instrumentation and further developed the New York street drumming school. Spencer was an expert at making instruments out of repurposed materials.
They relocated the show to the Saxe Theater at Planet Hollywood on the Las Vegas Strip after runs at the MGM, Tropicana, and The Quad. Drumsticks and other unusual instruments made from everyday objects like buckets, trashcans, power tools, and ladders are part of their participatory display. Chaos & Kindness is a web series and television show, Recycled Percussion, launched in 2017. The band members use the show to help communities in New Hampshire and beyond in creative and entertaining ways.
One episode has the band performing nonstop for twenty-four hours, and another features them covering the cost of dental surgery for a bandmate with cerebral palsy. Not only does the band host an annual toy drive for kids in the area, but they also own and operate a clothing line of the same name with multiple outlets up and down New Hampshire.
