Miss Coco Peru Information
Miss Coco Peru (August 27, 1965) is the persona of an American drag performer, actor, and comedian, Clinton Leupp. She is well-known for her role in “Trick,” an independent film and series of her live theater performances. Leupp graduated in 1983 from Cardinal Spellman High School and studied theatre at Adelphi University. According to Leupp, Bette Midler, Whoopi Goldberg, and Robin Williams were early idols.
Peru performed her first one-person-show in 1992, called “Miss Coco Peru in My Goddamn Cabaret.” In 1994, Coco Peru did another show as a guest, which was New York Undercover. In 1995, she appeared in both To Wong Foo Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar, and Wigstock: The Movie. Peru has appeared several times in the “Conversations with Coco,” a series of live celebrity interviews. Most interviews have taken place at the Los Angeles LGBT Center at the Renberg Theater.
So far, the celebrities who have been in “Conversations with Coco” include Bea Arthur, Lainie Kazan, Charles Busch, Lily Tomlin, Karen Black, Lesley Ann Warren, Jane Fonda, Liza Minnelli, and Allison Janney. Peru has appeared in numerous films throughout her career, including Nick and Jane (1997), Rude Awakening (1999), Will & Grace (2001), Girls Will Be Girls (2003), Boy Meets Boy (2003), Straight-Jacket (2004), Arrested Development (2005), Wiserack (2005), Sissy Frenchfry (2005), The Wild (2006), Welcome to the Parker (2007), and Rick & Steve: The Happiest Gay Couple in All the World (2008).
