Kristina Wong Information
Kristina Wong is an American comedian born in San Francisco, California. In 2000, she received her bachelor's and master's degrees in English and World Arts and Cultures, respectively, with a concentration in Asian American Studies. In 2008, she spoke at the UCLA English Department's commencement. In 2014, she spoke at UCLA's student-initiated Asian Pacific Islander Graduation (APIG), discussing the changing perceptions of Asian American men's sexual allure.
At the 2017 "In Search of Miss Ruthless" exhibition at the Para Site gallery in Hong Kong, Wong presented her "Fannie Wong" persona, a crass "former Miss Chinatown 2nd-Runner-Up." The show explored the cultural impact of the Miss Chinatown USA pageant within the Chinese-American diaspora. Wong interacted with museumgoers as part of the artwork, featuring a display case full of artifacts from "Fannie Wong's" prior performances, such as when she invaded the Miss LA Chinatown pageant in 2003.
Wong was featured in the "Off Color Comedy" section of the New York Times in October 2014. The video highlighted how her stand-up, talks, one-woman performances, and poetry critique sexism, racism, and the fetishization of Asian women. A Pulitzer Prize in Drama was awarded to Kristina Wong for her play Sweatshop Overlord.
