Henry Franklin Winkler (October 30, 1945) is an American director, executive producer, author, comedian, and actor born in New York City. Winkler rose to prominence as Arthur "Fonzie" Fonzarelli on Happy Days' American television series. Still, he is best known as a character actor for parts like Arthur Himbry in Scream. He has won many awards, including a Primetime Emmy, two Golden Globes Awards, two Daytime Emmys, and one Critics' Choice Award.
In September 1973, Winkler moved to California and was cast in a small role on The Mary Tyler Moore Show. He also auditioned for Happy Days and was cast in the character of Arthur "Fonzie" Fonzarelli, which he played for ten years. Winkler was diagnosed with dyslexia during his stint on Happy Days.
After the end of Happy Days, Winkler found himself typecast and moved into producing and directing. He worked on shows like Sightings and The Hollywood Squares while in this position, and he was directly engaged in the production of the original MacGyver television series. Memories of Me, starring Billy Crystal, and Cop and a Half, starring Burt Reynolds, were also directed by him.
