Gad Elmaleh Information
Glad Elmaleh (April 19, 1971) is a Moroccan-Canadian actor and stand-up comedian. He was born in Casablanca, Morocco. Elmaleh's autobiographical debut one-man performance, Décalages, premiered at the "Palais des Glaces" in 1997. In the play, he recounts his life from when he left Morocco after graduating from high school to his time in Montreal for college, and finally to his time in France when he attended the Cours Florent Drama School.
The triumph of his second one-man show, La Vie Normale, which marked his first performance at the Olympia and his first performance of more than two hours, catapulted his fame even higher. On January 23, 2001, the series debuted on DVD. His third one-man show, L'autre c'est moi (2005), features more improvisation and audience participation than his previous two. He is credited with popularizing the American stand-up style in France with his solo performances.
In September 2006, he returned to the stage in Montreal, New York City (at the Beacon Theatre, in front of 3,000 people), and Casablanca, Morocco, with L'autre, c'est moi. His 2007 tour in France, Belgium, and Switzerland was a smashing success. More than 300,000 people watched the program. After being put on DVD, the show sold 1.5 million copies.
