Deborah Eisenberg Information
Deborah Eisenberg (November 20, 1945) is an American short story writer, teacher, and actress. She was born in Winnetka, Illinois. In 1973, Eisenberg worked as an associate editor for The New York Review of Books magazine. Before joining the faculty of Columbia University's MFA writing program in 2011, she taught for the University of Virginia from 1994 until then.
There are five-story compilations authored by Eisenberg: Transactions in a Foreign Currency, Under the 82nd Airborne, All Around Atlantis, Twilight of the Superheroes, and Your Duck Is My Duck (2018). The New York Times Book Review contributor Ben Marcus hailed Eisenberg as "one of the most important fiction writers now at work" while reviewing Eisenberg's novel Twilight of the Superheroes. Wonderful job, man. The Work (So Far) of Deborah Eisenberg collects the first two story collections she released. (1997). She has her first four collections republished in The Collected Stories of Deborah Eisenberg (2010).
In 2000, Eisenberg was honored for his outstanding contributions to the short story by being awarded the prestigious Rea Award for the Short Story. She has also been honored with the Whiting Award, a Guggenheim Fellowship in 1987, and six O. Henry Awards. Eisenberg received a MacArthur Fellowship in 2009 and was admitted to the American Academy of Arts and Letters in 2007. The Collected Stories of Deborah Eisenberg received the PEN/Faulkner Award for Fiction in 2011.
