Cosi Fan Tutte Information
Così fan tutte is an Italian opera buffa. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart presents it in two acts. On January 26, 1790, it was first performed at Burgtheater in Vienna, Austria, written by Lorenzo Da Ponte, who also authored Le nozze di Figaro and Don Giovanni. Current research challenges the popular belief that Cos fan Tutte was written and composed at Emperor Joseph II's request. Cos fan Tutte, the short title, literally translates to "They all do," with the feminine plural (Tutte) indicating ladies.
In English, it's frequently translated as "Women are like that." Act 2, scene 3, right before the conclusion, the three men sing the words; this melodic phrase is also reproduced in the opera's overture. In Le nozze di Figaro, Da Ponte used the words "Cos fan tutti le beautiful." In their 2020 staging of Covid fan Tutte, the Finnish National Opera reworked the music (along with other Mozart pieces).
