Colin Kelly Jost (June 29, 1982) is an American actor, writer, and comedian. He was born in New York City, New York. Jost got a reporter and copy editor job at the Staten Island Advance just after he finished school. After that, Kappa Mikey, an animated series on Nickelodeon, engaged him as a writer. Upon leaving that role, he sent his writing samples to NBC's Saturday Night Live, ultimately leading to a writing gig there in 2005.
Jost credits Norm Macdonald as an inspiration for his Update anchor work. Jost had a formative high school experience with Macdonald's tone. He also credits Tina Fey as an inspiration. Jost appeared in Weekend Update and as Ohio Governor John Kasich in a parody of the Republican presidential debate. Later, during the 2020 Democratic Party primaries, he played Pete Buttigieg, and in 2021, he played Roger Goodell of the NFL.
In May of 2017, Jost started dating actress Scarlett Johansson. They got engaged in May of this year (2019). In October 2020, they tied the knot in their New York apartment. In August of 2021, Johansson gave birth to a boy. Jost has bought a former Staten Island Ferry boat with fellow comic Pete Davidson.
