Chonda Pierce (March 4, 1960) is an American actor, author, television hostess, and stand-up comedian. She was born in Covington, Kentucky. As "Grand Ole Opry" star Minnie Pearl, Pierce got her start performing at Nashville's Opryland Theme Park. Pierce recalled her manager advising her to "find a new talent" because she was a bad dancer. She spent six years imitating Minnie Pearl and committed three pages of jokes from Grinders Switch, TN, to memory to maintain her employment.
"Entertainment Tonight," "The View," Fox News Channel, "Wanda Sykes," "Hallmark Home & Family," NY1, CNN's "History of Comedy," and "How The States Got Their Shapes." Her comedy is routinely aired on XM and Sirius satellite radio, and she has also made appearances on several other networks. Variety gushed about how "Chonda Pierce: Laughing in the Dark" sold out its encore.
Her work as a co-host on Total Living's discussion show "Aspiring Women" and her debut television special, "This Ain't Prettyville!", which aired on the CMT Network, garnered Pierce five Daytime Emmy nods. "Roll With It," Chonda's first scripted feature picture, premiered in theaters in August 2019. The comedic trials and tribulations of a wise-cracking waitress whose faith, friends, and family help her overcome a personal crisis are told in the film, based on a screenplay that Chonda initially created with her late husband.
