Central West Ballet Information
Central West Ballet is an entertaining group of flexible dancers that produces performances year-round, addressing a huge population in California's Central Valley as a resident company of the Gallo Center for the Arts in Modesto, California. The company was founded in 1987, and its Artistic Directors have included Gretchen L. Vogelzang, Karen Burns, Bill Lark, and Coleen Patterson.
René Daveluy, the theater's Artistic Director, and Leslie Ann Larson have been at the helm since 2004. In their tenure as artistic directors, Central West Ballet has produced and advanced a growing canon of full-length classics like Romeo and Juliet, Swan Lake, Coppelia, The Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Giselle, and popular story ballets like Peter Pan, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, and Dracula. The Company's repertoire includes works by George Balanchine, Val Caniparoli, and Ronn Guidi. In 2010, the business expanded into its own studio space on Pentecost Drive in North Modesto. In addition, the Central West Ballet Academy (founded in 2014) and CWB II (a trainee company founded in 2015) provides opportunities for dedicated students to hone their skills with a focus on performance.
Central West Ballet is committed to providing accessible arts education through its community outreach activities. Since 2018, Central West Ballet has offered Sensory dance classes for children on the autism spectrum, performances for the deaf and hard-of-hearing community, and special Nutcracker Sensory access performances as part of its outreach programs and Academy operations under the leadership of Executive Director Karin Reenstierna.
