Boston Ballet Information
American classical dance company The Boston Ballet operates in Boston, Massachusetts. It was the first commercial repertoire ballet company in New England when it was established in 1963. E. Virginia Williams and Sydney Leonard founded the Boston Ballet. Bruce Marks (1985–1997), Violette Verdy (1980–1984), and Anna-Marie Holmes (1997–2000) have all served the company as its leaders. In September 2001, Mikko Nissinen was named creative director. Boston Opera House is the current principal venue of the company.
In January 1990, Boston Ballet debuted at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC. Following a tour to Spain in July, Boston Ballet relocated into its permanent offices which are located at 19 Clarendon Street in Boston's South End.
Ming Min Hui is the executive director, whereas Mikko Nissinen is the creative director. Assistant Director Russell Kaiser works along with company manager Veronica Horne.
Classics like La Sylphide by August Bournonville and The Sleeping Beauty by Marius Petipa are still part of the repertory of the Boston Ballet. The company performs in over 35 shows, and more than 250 students from the Boston Ballet School participate yearly. The Nutcracker by the Boston Ballet has been presented every year since 1963.
