Annette Gordon-Reed Information
Annette Gordon-Reed (November 19, 1958) is an American law professor and historian. She was born in Livingstone, Texas. She attended primary school as the first black student in segregated "Jim Crow" Conroe, Texas. She started caring about Thomas Jefferson while she was in third grade. She attended Dartmouth College, where she graduated in 1981, and Harvard Law School, where she received a degree in 1984 and was a member of the Harvard Law Review.
Before becoming a partner at Cahill Gordon & Reindel, Gordon-Reed worked as counsel for the New York City Board of Corrections and as an associate at Cahill Gordon & Reindel. She has given keynote addresses or served as a panel moderator at conferences on legal and historical themes throughout the United States. Before joining the faculty at Rutgers University–Newark (2007–2010) as a Board of Governors Professor of History, she taught as the Wallace Stevens Professor of Law at New York Law School (1992–2010). She became Carol K. White, Professor of History and Law at Harvard, in 2010.
Pforzheimer Professor of Advanced Study at Radcliffe. Her position at HLS as the Charles Warren Professor of American Legal History began in 2012. She lectured at Queen's College, University of Oxford, as the Harold Vyvyan Harmsworth Visiting Professor in 2014.
