Anita Hill Information
Anita Faye Hill (July 30, 1956) is an American author, educator, and lawyer. She was born in Lone Tree, Oklahoma. Hill is a university professor of social policy, women’s studies, and law at Brandeis University. She performs her duties at the Heller School of Social Policy and as a Management faculty member. In 1991, Hill became a national figure after being accused by U.S. Supreme Court nominee Clarence Thomas, her supervisor at the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the United States Department of Education, of sexual harassment.
Hill was admitted to the District of Columbia Bar in 1980, where she started her law career as an associate for the Washington D.C. firm of Wald, Harkrader & Ross. She became an assistant professor at the Evangelical Christian O.W Coburn School of Law at Oral Robert University. There she taught from 1983 to 1986. Hill joined the faculty of the University of Oklahoma in 1986. She also got appointed as a visiting scholar at Brandeis University in 1998.
Hill is also known for writing a tribute to Thurgood Marshall, the first African American Supreme Court Justice. On October 20, 1998, she published the book entitled Speaking Truth to Power. In 1992, Hill received the American Bar Association’s Commission on Women in the Profession’s “Women of Achievement” award. She is also referenced in the Sonic Youth song in 1992 entitled “Youth Against Fascism.”
