Alan Cumming Information
Alan Cumming is a Scottish–American writer, filmmaker, actor, comedian, singer, and activist. He is from Aberfeldy, Perthshire, and attended Monikie Primary School and Carnoustie High School. In his autobiography, Cumming describes the emotional and physical violence his father inflicted on him during his childhood years titled Not My Father's Son. For his mother, it impossible to obtain a divorce until being financially independent. He stopped all kinds of communication with his father in his early 20's, just before the filming of his episode of the series Who Do You Think You Are?
Cumming made his TV debut in ITV Granada's Travelling Man, in December 1984. He also appeared in the Scottish Television series Take the High Road, Shadow of the Stone, Taggart, and a few more. He recorded a duet of "Baby, It's Cold Outside" with Liza Minnelli, released an award-winning fragrance called "Cumming”, narrated the audiobook "Macbeth: A Novel," written by A.J, and much more.
Alan Cumming has acted in numerous films, plays, and television shows. Some of his notable stage appearances include The National Theatre of Scotland's The Bacchae, the lead in Bent, the Maniac in Accidental Death of an Anarchist, and Hamlet. He made his short film debut in 1986 in Gillies MacKinnon's short film Passing Glory. However, Cumming’s first major US film was 1997's Romy and Michele's High School Reunion. He also starred in The Airzone Solution, Circle of Friends, Plunkett & Macleane, The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas, and many more.
Cumming has earned several awards and nominations throughout his career, such as Olivier Award, British Comedy Award, Theatre Management Association Award, Tony Award, Drama Desk Award, Philadelphia International Gay & Lesbian Film Festival, and was also inducted in Vanity Fair Hall of Fame.
