Washington Huskies Softball Information
Regarding collegiate softball in the United States, the University of Washington is represented by the Washington Huskies of NCAA Division I. They are members of the Pacific-12 Conference and hold home games at the Husky Softball Stadium on the University of Washington campus in Seattle. By 2020, the Huskies will have completed 14 trips to the Women's College World Series, where they triumphed in 2009.
When the program began in 1993, head coach Teresa Wilson led the team to the NCAA tournament the following year. Since then, she has led the team to the Women's College World Series six times, including the championship games on two occasions (1996 and 1999). From 1996 through 2000, Wilson guided his team to no less than a fifth-place national result, and his team posted a 532-198-1 (.728) record under his direction.
However, Wilson's coaching career was cut short as she was accused of doping her athletes in a controversy that broke in late 2003. She was Washington's second high-profile coach to be let go in the same year as Huskies football coach Rick Neuheisel, who was let go due to an NCAA betting scandal. When Wilson was let go, Scott Centala and Steve Dailey took turns as head coaches for the 2004 season.
