Real Madrid, or Real Madrid Club de Fútbol, is a professional football team based in Madrid. La Liga is the highest level of Spanish football, and this club plays in it. Since starting in 1902 as the Madrid Football Team, the team has maintained its classic white home kit. After a 2-1 triumph over Manchester United in the 2017–18 UEFA Super Cup, Real won the trophy for the second year in a row and for the fourth time in club history.
Real Madrid ended Barça's 24 consecutive match-scoring record in El Clásico matches and won their second trophy of the season after defeating them 3-1 in the first leg of the 2017 Supercopa de España at the Camp Nou. They went on to defeat Barça 2-0 in the return leg.
Real became the first team to retain the FIFA Club World Cup trophy on December 16, 2017, after defeating Grêmio, a Brazilian club, 1-0 in the final. In 2019, Real Madrid matched their record signing with the rumored €115 million for Eden Hazard, who they acquired from Chelsea. The record-breaking transfer for the club happened on July 10, 2018, when Juventus paid €117 million to acquire Cristiano Ronaldo.
