Ottawa Redblacks Information
The Ottawa Redblacks are a Canadian football franchise in Ottawa, Ontario. The squad participates in the Canadian Football League's East Division. The Ottawa Redblacks played their first game, a road encounter against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, on July 3, 2014. At their home opening on July 18, 2014, the Redblacks won their first regular-season game 18–17 over the Toronto Argonauts.
Formed in 1876, the Ottawa Rough Riders were founding members of the CFL in 1958 and participated until 1996. Formed as the Renegades in 2002 and running until the end of the 2005 season, a new Ottawa club emerged. The Redblacks emerged victorious in the 2016 Grey Cup title, ending Ottawa's 40-year Grey Cup title drought.
The Redblacks signed former Winnipeg Blue Bombers head coach Paul LaPolice as their second head coach in team history on December 7, 2019. With a record of 2–9 and eliminated from playoff contention in 2021, the Redblacks sacked general manager Marcel Desjardins on October 25, 2021. They were previously 3–15 in 2019.
