Nike Hoop Summit Information
Since 1995, except in 2001 and 2003, Nike has sponsored the Nike Hoop Summit, an annual international men's basketball all-star tournament pitting the USA Basketball Men's Junior Select Team against an international World Select Team. At these events, the players show off their abilities in the hopes of getting noticed by NBA scouts or college coaches. In the past, this event has attracted several active NBA stars.
The previous mark for points scored in the tournament was held by Dirk Nowitzki in 1998, but in 2010 Enes Kanter scored 34 to break that record. While Kanter held the mark for points scored until 2012, Shabazz Muhammad scored 35 points that year to take the title. In 2011, Bismack Biyombo scored 12 points, grabbed 11 boards, and blocked ten shots to become the first player in Hoop Summit history to achieve a triple-double.
Jovo Stanojevic (1995 and 1996), Alexandre Bachminov (1996 and 1997), Matthew Nielsen (1997 and 1998), Antonis Fotsis (1998 and 1999), Bostjan Nachbar (1999 and 2000), and Olumide Oyedeji (1999 & 2000) are the only 14 players in World Team history to participate in both the 1995 and 1996 Hoop Summits.
