Leagues Cup Showcase Information
The Leagues Cup is a soccer tournament that takes place every year between clubs from Major League Soccer, the most prominent soccer league in the U.S. and Canada, and Liga MX, the most prominent league in Mexico. Four teams from each division participated in the first event, which took place in July 2019. On September 18, 2019, the event's inaugural edition was held in the U.S. and featured a single-elimination format.
The championship match was held in Whitney, Nevada, near Las Vegas. In 2023, the competition was enlarged to include all clubs from Major League Soccer (MLS) and Liga MX. It currently serves as a regional cup for CONCACAF, in which the top-level leagues in Mexico and the U.S. compete against each other.
Additionally, MLS teams situated in Canada are included as participants. Regardless of their country of origin, the top three clubs in the League Cup are eligible to compete in the CONCACAF Champions Cup. The champions of the League Cup are granted a bye to the round of 16.
