Leagues Cup Information
The Leagues Cup is an annual association football competition between clubs from Liga MX and Major League Soccer. There were 77 total matches played in the United States and Canada, beginning with the 2023 edition of the Leagues Cup, which features all 47 MLS and Liga MX teams. The competition was established to gather some of the finest teams from each league and expose North American soccer to a larger platform. Although held in the summer, the tournament has gained rapid popularity, and the games are held in different U.S. cities. The Leagues Cup is a vivid occasion to observe the clash of the best representatives of both leagues.
The championship has provided an excellent opportunity for the teams of the two leagues to put their prowess to the test against each other. Other teams such as LA Galaxy, Club América, and Tigres UANL have been very competitive in previous editions of the event, which makes it even more exciting. The format entails a group stage, followed by a knockout stage, and the exciting final, where the winner of the Leagues Cup is crowned. The competition has, over the years, brought in new rivalries and has also helped raise the profile of soccer in North America.
The 2025 edition of the Leagues Cup consists of 36 teams, 18 MLS and 18 Liga MX teams. The tournament lasts between July 29 and August 31, and games are played in the U.S and Canada. The three leading teams will qualify for the 2026 Concacaf Champions Cup.
