Kane County Cougars Information
After the Wausau Timbers moved to Geneva, Illinois, in 1991, the Midwest League moved to Kane County. From 1952 to 1974, the Wausau Midwest League team was situated in Decatur, Illinois. From 1975 to 1990, they moved to Wausau. Since relocating to Kane County, the squad has gone by Cougars.
As of 2015, they are affiliated with the Arizona Diamondbacks, having previously been with the Baltimore Orioles in 1991 and 1992, the Florida Marlins from 1993 to 2002, the Oakland Athletics from 2003 until 2010, the Kansas City Royals in 2011 and 2012, and the Chicago Cubs in 2013 and 2014.
Many Marlins' 2003 World Series-winning squad members played for the Marlins' minor league affiliate in Kane County. While Dontrelle Willis topped the league in 2002 in terms of winning percentage and earned run average, Miguel Cabrera had a remarkable career, and Josh Beckett was a member of the Cougars in 2000.
Northwestern Medicine Field, which was constructed in 1991, is the home field of the Vancouver Canucks. There was a record-breaking 523,222 spectators for the franchise in 2001. The Cougars consistently rank high in league attendance. The Cougars broke the 10-million-fan barrier on July 20, 2013, making them the first Class A team to do so. Since its 2021 debut, the club has topped the American Association in attendance, and in 2022, they topped all MLB Partner Leagues.
